What is it about?

When we have a quantum system that is too big to simulate, or even infinite, it may be helpful to remove the non-interesting part of it and to focus on the relevant one. This is the problem handled by the Theory of Open Quantum Systems (OQS). The use of Master Equations in the Markovian limit is one of the most important approaches to OQS. In this paper we derive, explain and solve the Lindblad equation, that is the most general dynamic equation under the Markovian limit.

Why is it important?

The Lindblad Equation is the most used quantum Markovian equation, but it usually requires many hours of study to be understood. In this paper we give a short introduction to it that is self-contained and can be understood just with basic knowledge about quantum mechanics.

Perspectives

I hope this article saves time to students (undergrad, Master, PhDs) and researchers from other areas that want to start working in the field of Open Quantum Systems.
