What is it about?

A torticollis might not be a simple muscle spasm. Grisel syndrome, a non-traumatic rotatory atlanto-axial subluxation, is a cause of torticollis that usually occurs after an upper airway infection or surgery. Early diagnosis is of paramount importance to achieve good outcome.

Why is it important?

Despite Grisel syndrome is rare, many neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists and pediatricians will be faced with al least one case during their carriers. An adequate management since the begging is crucial for a good outcome.

Perspectives

When I took care of my first patient with Grisel syndrome I was surprised with the fact that there was few publications regarding this theme. This highlighted the importance to write an article that could reach all physicians.
