What is it about?

This study shows that inpatients accept a psycho-oncological distress screening presented on a tablet computer and results do not differ from paper-pencil-questionnaires. There are some reservations about using a computer but even older patients manage well. Patients who got the tablet tend to prefer a computer compared to paper-pencil-questionnaires.

Why is it important?

Computer based questionnaires offer the possibility to automatically provide the scores and forward the information based on pathways to the psycho-oncological team.

Perspectives

With the acceptance of tablets for distress screening it will be possible to use not only static questionnaires but "reactive" ones. Perhaps assessing distress can be more than measuring - it could be part of a reflecting decision-making process whether to call on psycho-oncological support.
