What is it about?

Taking the advantage of the photoacoustic spectroscopy technique to providing the depth profile analysis, which is specified by the thermal diffusion length, that depends of the thermal diffusivity and of the modulation frequency, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the penetration of two antifungal agents through human nail by using this technique.

Why is it important?

Penetration and interaction of antifungal agents through human nail are of crucial importance in the treatment of nail mycosis. The main task is to identify whether the substances used as vehicles are efficient to carry the active substance to reach the nail bed.

Perspectives

The results showed that Photoacoustic Spectroscopy is a suitable technique to evaluate the penetration of drugs trough human nail, indicating which vehicle caused a greater penetration.
