What is it about?

Leaves of Guava plant possess antibacterial activity. We have shown for the first time that the encapsulation of guava leave extract into the PHBV nanoparticles enhanced their antibacterial potential against multidrug resistant bacteria. The blank PHBV nanoparticles posses no antibacterial potential due to their biodegradable, biocompatible and non-toxic nature.

Why is it important?

Our finding shows that the daily intake of the seasonal fruits may have beneficial effects on our immune system against the bacterial infections due to presence of the bioactive compounds in them.

Perspectives

The potential of the PHBV nanoparticle as an efficient carrier of bioactive compounds was explored in this work. We got good preliminary results in this regards and further work is still going on.
