What is it about?
By using large collections of GPS data on individuals' smartphones, we can model the passage of vehicles through the car parks of public places like supermarkets, shopping centres, gyms and cinemas - all places where EV charging infrastructure is likely to be located in the near future. A model is presented which uses Queue Theory techniques to turn this passage of vehicles into electrical charging demand, which is used to explore the variation in EV charging demand in time and between different types of public amenity. The results produced could be invaluable to electricity and transport system planners, as it will allow them to see when and where EV charging demand is likely to be.
