What is it about?

The Minimum Speech Test Battery- Version 3 (MSTB-3) provides recommendations for pre-operative determination of candidacy and post-operative assessment of cochlear implant performance in adults. It contains important practice guidance for clinicians working with cochlear implant (CI) candidates and recipients including testing protocols, digitally downloadable test materials, report templates, and a manual detailing testing considerations for working with the variety of patient types followed by CI centers.

Why is it important?

The MSTB-3 was created to support expanded candidacy by providing clinicians with evaluation criteria to assess a wider variation of possible CI candidates; including patients with asymmetrical hearing loss (AHL), single sided deafness (SSD), and usable acoustic hearing.

Perspectives

This important document was created by a group of clinical content experts from both private practice and public institutions. This gives a wide range of depth and breadth to the materials created. Our aim is to reduce practice variance between CI centers and expand access to this important treatment option.
