What is it about?

This article is about the role of middle-level managers in healthcare, specifically in communication sciences and disorders (speech-language pathology and audiology). It can take 17 years for research to become common practice in clinical settings. This time-gap is often referred to as the research-practice gap. This article is important because it proposes a strategy, to leverage the role of middle-level managers, to help close that gap. Closing the research practice gap can help improve not only business efficiencies in healthcare but also patient outcomes.

Perspectives

As a clinician working in healthcare, the barriers to providing high quality clinical care are innumerable. Clinicians face barriers every day - everything from high caseloads, reduced time, and limited resources. Actively working to make change in this space benefits the lives of clinicians and their patients.
