Why is it important?

Managing to reproduce safely this type of temporary hearing loss due to loud music could help researchers better understand this phenomenon which is now partially understood. It could also be helpful in testing if specific medication or personal characteristics make some people more or less vulnerable to loud music.

Perspectives

The music material that was developed and validated in this study is a very helpful tool that could be used from now on in clinical trials for substances that may protect the hearing or treat hearing loss. It could also be used in better understanding which characteristics make us more vulnerable to loud music.
