What is it about?
This study compares three language sample elicitation strategies for early language learners who speak using AAC to determine the elicitation strategy that yielded the most valid language sample for this population. Results reveal that the generic play sample yielded the most valid language sample when compared to another valid language measure.

Why is it important?
Language sampling is a common, effective evaluation tool. For this tool to be used effectively, SLPs must use the most appropriate language sample elicitation strategy to collect a valid language sample from clients. The most effective language sample elicitation strategy for early language learners who speak using AAC was unknown, leaving SLPs without knowledge of the best way to elicit a representative language sample from this population. This study provides professionals with an elicitation strategy (and language sample coding suggestions) for this population.
