What is it about?
This article is about the perception of music in fitness classes. Does loud music in group fitness classes motivate participants or are they turned off by the loud music? Overall, the results indicated that loud music is a motivator and that other aspects of the class (such as control over music type, instructor attitude, and class difficulty level) are more important than the loudness of the music. In this study, most participants were young adult females so this needs to be explored further to see if these findings apply to other groups.

Why is it important?
High intensity sound affects hearing and since many people attend group fitness classes where music tends to be played to motivate people to exercise. Data shows these levels could exceed safe levels for noise exposure, which may cause hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
