What is it about?
This review identified interventions that have been used to help preschool-aged multilingual children with a speech and/or language difficulties. A systematic search was conducted for interventions with research evidence. Fifty-six relevant studies were found describing interventions for children with speech sound disorder, developmental language disorder, or who were at risk of speech and language difficulties. Most interventions were beneficial to the children. Only 15 studies of these studies were high-quality studies and the studies described 18 interventions. Only Nuestros Niños [Our Children] had enough evidence to be an evidence-based practice. Nuestros Niños supports children’s early literacy and phonological awareness skills.

Why is it important?
There is a shortage of information on evidence-based interventions for supporting young multilingual children. There are only a few high-quality studies exist that describe speech, language and/or literacy interventions for these children. These interventions are highlighted in this paper.
