What is it about?
Children learn some words earlier and some words later. There are various factors that can influence how early a word is acquired, for example how common the word is, what is the word's lenght, whether it is a noun or verb. The study examined such factors in Czech, a language with rich inflectional system, and it is one of the first studies looking at the ages at which words are acquired in any highly inflected language. Special attention was paid to imageability, i. e. the degree to which words elicit internal images when people hear them, and neighborhood density, i. e. the number of similar sounding words.
