What is it about?

Children’s responses to a single prompt about a picture were analyzed for the presence of grammatical errors. Percent Grammatical Responses (PGR), the percentage of responses that contained no grammatical errors, showed a high correlation and agreement for making clinical decisions with another previously validated but more time-consuming measure of grammaticality. This supports the use of PGR as a quick and easy means for assessing grammaticality.

Why is it important?

Previous studies had established that percent grammatical utterances (PGU) was a valid measure of grammaticality. The current study established the construct and concurrent validity for an alternative briefer measure of grammaticality, percent grammatical responses (PGR).
