What is it about?

This is a scoping review of the literature looking at how outcomes for preschoolers with communication disorders are measured and evaluated. Outcomes were classified using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health - Child and Youth Version (ICF-CY). There are three main parts to this framework: Body Functions and Structures (body parts and how they move and work); Activities (the doing of things related to communication - like talking, understanding, reading); Participation (using communication to engage meaningfully in life). Most outcomes for preschoolers have been measured related to Body Functions and Structures and Activity. We argue the importance of evaluating outcomes related to Participation as we feel it is the most meaningful for children and families.
