What is it about?
This study shows that you can transform plastic waste into special carbon sheets using a simple process. These carbon sheets can capture sunlight really well and turn it into heat, which can make water evaporate quickly when exposed to the sun. This review article has been showcased in the 2022 theme issue of Emerging Investigators by the Royal Society of Chemistry Publisher, in the Journal of Materials Chemistry A. This special issue recognizes the emerging talents in materials chemistry research for the year 2022 and brings together outstanding contributions from early-career materials chemists.

Why is it important?
It is important because it offers a way to recycle plastic waste into something useful for harnessing solar energy. These carbon sheets are very efficient at converting sunlight into heat, which can be used to speed up the evaporation of water. This could have applications in clean water production and other solar-powered technologies.
