Perhaps, this paper is the first report on "multi-functional additive" in G-CNT synthesis, wherein a single precursor acts as both reducing agent and source of CNT.

Why is it important?
Graphene alone has many applications, but when it is hybridized with CNT, the performance of 3D nano-structures is enhanced by many folds.. This is continuation of my research on G-CNT hybrids [doi:10.1016/j.carbon.2015.01.063; DOI: 10.1021/es401389g; DOI: 10.1021/nn3046133] and novelty in this paper is utilizing hydroquinone as a single precursor for reduction and growth of CNTs by simple microwave radiation and the process can be completed in less than 3 minutes (depends on amount of reactants).
