What is it about?
The RAFT agents have broad applicability to controlling polymerization of both less activated (vinyl monomers) and more activated monomers (styrenes, acrylates) and are an appropriate replacement for trithiocarbonate RAFT agents is the case of monosubstituted monomers. They have the distinct advantage that they have low odour and the derived polymers do not develop odour on storage.

Why is it important?
The RAFT agents are readily synthesised and are commercially available.
