What is it about?
The chemiluminescence (CL) efficiency is influenced by the viscosity of the solvent, however, intermolecular systems (where two chemical species interact) show low influence of solvent viscosity. Whereas, an intramolecular system (participation of only one molecule) shows significant influence of the emission quantum yields on solvent viscosity.

Why is it important?
This work shows that the low efficiency of the intermolecular chemiluminescence systems is not due to the solvent cage escape of radical ion intermediates, giving additional evidence for the importance of steric effects for the chemiluminescence efficiency.
