What is it about?

We have synthesized a homobasic DNA in the crystal state by adopting topochemical Azide Alkyne Cycloaddition (TAAC) reaction. This synthesis does not require solvents, catalysts etc.

Why is it important?

This is the first topochemical synthesis of a DNA analog wherein phosphodiesters are replaced by triazole motifs. This is important as the synthesis does not involve the use of solvents, catalysts or other activators.

Perspectives

This is the first solid-state synthesis of DNA analog. This paper illustrates the power of supramolecular chemistry approach to solve complex chemical problems.
