What is it about?
Carboxylate complex having an ester group getting hydrolysed in solid state but wet condition to dicarboxylic acid is monitored and shown. This clearly shows how step wise conversion of diester to corresponding acid is possible in a metal mediated process. To show such transformation alcoholysis of of cycling anhydride in presence of metal salt is taken.

Why is it important?
This study establishes conversion of crystals of a carboxylate monoester complex to dicarboxyic complex to selectively prepare metal dicarboxylate complexes. Role of different cyclic anhydrides in making varieties in structures are envisaged.
