What is it about?
Naphthalimide tethered to a imidazole with a flexible tether provides ligands that would adopt different conformers. This study shows how the composition and structural variations of complexes such a ligand varies with metal ions and the coordinating anions. Depending on compositions and the geometry around the metal ion the optical properties changes.

Why is it important?
Naphthalimide based ligands have been extensively used for various applications. Their utility in bottom up synthesis and their assembling through complexation with metal ions are important. This article provides extensive diversification by using a single ligand a nd provides wide avenues to utilize such studies as conceptual basis in materail design.
