What is it about?

Activated graphene quantum dots emit enhanced luminescence and electro-chemical properties. These properties are highly desirable for photocatalysis, energy storage devices, opto-electronics and biomedical applications.

Why is it important?

Previous work had focussed on physical activation of graphene quantum dots (GQD) and had not captured the enhanced properties achievable on using chemical activation. Our focus here was facile synthesis of chemically activated GQDs and investigation of their useful attributes in comparison with non-activated GQDs, normal graphene and activated graphene. We found enhanced properties for activated GQDs.
