What is it about?
Perchlorate is a common groundwater contaminant, often associated with rocket fuel spills. Here we show trees can uptake perchlorate and concentrations of perchlorate in trees can be used to identify areas of groundwater contaminated with perchlorate. This method, termed phytoscreening, is a cost effective, low-impact technique for finding contaminated groundwater
