What is it about?
We have discovered a new compound, BiGeO2(OH)2(NO3) and solved its crystal structure. Using this material, we have successfully synthesized the Bi4Ge3O12 compound at room temperature within 30 min, even though Bi4Ge3O12 could not be synthesized below 1123 K by employing the sol-gel method.

Why is it important?
This new compound has very unique crystal structure with GeO5 trigonal bipyramids. Similar an prototype structures does not exist in other system.
