What is it about?
Sugars and cyclitols exists in many isomeric forms. Some are abundant, some are rare and some are unnatural isomers.Nature makes isomers of sugars by using different enzymes such as isomerases etc. In this paper, by mimicking nature, we have reported a simple and efficient strategy for converting an abundant isomer into rare or unnatural isomers.

Why is it important?
Rare and unnatural isomers of sugars and cyclitols are important for studying the biological roles, structure activity relations etc of these class of molecules. As these are rare or unnatural isomers, it is essential to synthesize these compounds. Our method provides an easy access to many sugars and cyclitols.
