What is it about?

Resorcinarenes, a group of macrocyclic supramolecular compounds, were observed to work as effective antibacterial agents against E.coli when combined with silver ions. The effect was pronounced compared to pure silver salts and compared to pure resorcinarenes.

Why is it important?

The antibacterial effect was better than with pure silver salts or resorcinarene alone indicating an improved access or release rate from the silver complex of the reseorcinarene.
