What is it about?

Infrared spectroscopy can be used to monitor drug induced changes in cells, but spectra also change due to the cell cycle. These two changes are often difficult to separate. This work shows how this has been achieved.

Why is it important?

Screening for new drugs is a very expensive business so any technique that can do this quickly and efficiently is of great value. Infrared spectroscopy is potentially an new method that can be used. There is much work to be done however, in understanding all the changes observed in the infrared spectra. In particular separating cell cycle affects from those induced by the drug. This work will help develop this method.
