What is it about?

The C–C bond formation between ketone and alcohol was promoted by Pd complex with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands. The reaction involves the cleavage of C–H and O–H bonds of the alcohol that gives the aldehyde, followed by aldol condensation to give the alpha, beta-unsaturated ketone and subsequent hydrogenation of the resulting alpha, beta-olefin.
