What is it about?

This study involves packing pattern of flexible dicarboxylic acid attached to naphthalene core. Symmetry non-equivalent molecules in lattice are discussed. The structure methyl esters differs significantly from the parent carboxylic acids and the packing patterns have significant contribution from C-H..pi and C-H...O interactions.

Why is it important?

Provides, the scope to understand role of naphthalene ring to control carboxylic acid...acid, acid...ester interactions in dicarboxylic acids or mono-ester of dicarboxylic acids that tethered to naphthalene through an intervening flexible part.

Perspectives

Carboxylic acid...acid interactions as well as carboxylic acid..ester interactions are indispensable. They provide clues to reaction mechanisms and material design. In this particular paper naphthalene part of studied molecules is fluorophore; hence leaves scope to improvise the understanding to design sensors.
