What is it about?

This chapter describes software products that use cheminformatics to help chemists make decisions. We describe areas such as green solvents, environmentally sustainable feedstocks, hazardous byproducts, toxicity prediction.

Why is it important?

Green Chemistry can be summarized as a set of principles to reduce or eliminate the generation of hazardous substances in design, manufacture and application of chemical products. We highlight the Green Solvents, Lab Solvents, Yield10, Opend Drug Discovery Teams, and Green Lab Notebook.

Perspectives

While there are electronic lab notebooks for many areas of science and chemistry in particular, to date no one has addressed making one for green chemistry. While this chapter describes early work in the area it is fundamental for future progress and I would expect this to greatly expand in future.
