Why is it important?
Erectile dysfunction (ED) has been described as an important public health problem by National Institutes of Health Consensus Panel,1 which identified an urgent need for population-based data concerning the prevalence, determinants, and consequences of this disorder. Despite recent advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology of penile erection and treatments of ED, few population- based estimates of the incidence of ED are available.
