What is it about?
In this large study that included 127,121 participants in the UK, we found genetic variations that are associated with arterial stiffness index (ASI), a measure of blood vessel stiffness using intra-red finger probes.

Why is it important?
Our findings give us a better understanding of the mechanisms that contribute towards blood vessel stiffness. This is important as we know that stiffer blood vessels are associated with high blood pressure, heart diseases and stroke. Therefore, improved understanding will help with better disease prediction and treatment.
