What is it about?

Candida auris is a human pathogen, which only recently has been recognized. It is a global health threat, and creates massive problems for patients in intensive care. Here, we show that another fungus, called Saccharomycopsis schoenii, can efficiently kill Candida auris.

Why is it important?

We show that S. schoenii efficiently attacks and kills a range of pathogenic Candida species, including the newly emerged human pathogenic fungus C. auris. Efficient predation as shown here could be useful for biocontrol purposes in clinical settings for skin clearance.
