What is it about?

The paper was developed in collaboration with a host of luminaries working in the peer review process and data fields, is based on pilot work on creating infrastructure and processes to effectively share data from the peer review process across publishers, to be synthesised for analysis in a consistent and secure way. As well as the pilot study on collecting and analysing the peer review data, the paper collates output from a working group in October 2018, that discussed best practices, optimal methods and potential gaps in our ability to transfer and collect peer review data.

Why is it important?

The paper details many of the goals of PEERE and the benefits that more transparent and open data-sharing could have for the scholarly community, and ultimately calls for "Journals, funders and scholars [to] work together to create an infrastructure to study peer review.

Perspectives

It is always a fascinating experience to be involved in PEERE projects, and this meeting and paper in particular was great fun and rewarding to work on as it involved several EASE Council members - Flaminio Squazzoni (PEERE-Lead), Rachael Lammey, Bahar Mehmani, and Ana Marušić.
