What is it about?

Healthcare professionals (HCPs), who dedicate their lives to caring for others, often have their own well-being overlooked due to the high demands of their work, where life-and-death situations are routine. Despite being a crucial concern, there is a lack of comprehensive and consolidated literature review. In this paper, we consolidate fragmented research into eight key themes and propose a framework for a deeper understanding of HCPs' well-being.

Why is it important?

The intriguing knowledge gap that captured our attention is that current discussions on HCPs well-being focus on minimizing stress and burnout, but is that really enough? Can simply reducing stress lead to holistic well-being? Does that mean inherently demanding professionals never experience well-being unless stress is eliminated? Fundamentally, well-being is more holistic, involving positive emotions and strengths beyond just managing stress. Future researchers should address these intriguing questions.

Perspectives

As someone involved in the administrative side of healthcare, I often found myself asking: why are healthcare professionals (HCPs) so frequently frustrated? This curiosity sparked a passion in me to dive into the literature, ultimately leading to the devlopement of this paper. I am deeply grateful to my co-authors for guiding me academically and helping me explore this interest. I believe you will find the answers to the 'what' and 'why' of HCPs' well-being clearly consolidated here, saving you the struggle I once faced in searching for them.
