What is it about?

Sexual minority adults have reported poorer sleep than heterosexual adults. This research used an online survey to understand why this happens. We found that sexual minority adults are more likely to have experienced sexual abuse, stress, and depressive symptoms than heterosexual adults. These may contribute to why sexual minority adults tend to sleep less well than others.

Why is it important?

Our research shows that sexual minority adults are more likely to experience sexual abuse and mental health issues, which are associated with sleep problems. This highlights the importance of addressing these challenges to promote better health.

Perspectives

I hope this article encourages more research to learn why sexual minority individuals tend to report sleep problems. Also, I want to see more actions taken to improve overall health among sexual and gender diverse individuals.
