What is it about?

St. Ignatius, founder of the Jesuits or the Society of Jesus, lived over 500 years ago. His spiritual exercises are pretty savvy about human behavior and behavior change. Many of his techniques and strategies for better living could easily be used in present day and secular cognitive behavioral psychotherapy. Thus, they offer tools for therapists regardless of their religious interests or engagement.

Why is it important?

We need all the tools we can get for professional psychotherapy and turning to the great wisdom traditions can be helpful.

Perspectives

I am very engaged by the psychology and religious worlds and the integration of these two communities can be synergistic and helpful to our patients and students.
