Why is it important?

Catholic or not, most people have been impacted by the Roman Catholic Church in one way or another via schools, universities, hospitals, clinics, social services, and so forth. Child protection is so important both in and outside of the Church environment that we need to have good evidence based information and policies to keep children safe and to better understand this topic that so often dominates the press.

Perspectives

I've been working in the Catholic clergy abuse area as both a researcher and a clinician for over 30 years. I've treated and evaluated both victims and offenders and consult on local, regional, and national Church committees for child protection. I so strongly believe that clerical abuse is a solvable problem but only when good evidence based science and practice rule the day.
