What is it about?
This study presents perspectives on suicide and suicide prevention amongst a select sample of Christian FBO members. The causes of suicide as nominated by the sample were relevant, varied, psychologically minded, and consistent with other research findings. Links between stated causes and current prevention strategies could be drawn. Ideas for suicide prevention primarily emphasized increased capacity building and proactive engagement with suicidal persons. Greater responsibility for suicide prevention amongst community members was encouraged.

Why is it important?
Recruiting Christian FBOs in suicide prevention is an important area for research. Future research could use this study to create a semi-structured questionnaire for use among focus groups, where more in-depth information could be sought. Data could alternatively be developed into a quantitative survey for distribution amongst Christian FBOs within a community. Both recommendations would promote increased and systematic exploration of Christian FBO members’ perspectives on suicide and suicide prevention, enabling better determination of their role in responding to this issue.
