What is it about?

Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska's mission is to increase behavioral health workforce in Nebraska. We studied the rate of conversion from provisional to full license using workforce data on psychologists, social workers, therapists and drug and alcohol counselors.

Why is it important?

Our study shows that conversion rate is 44% for alcohol and drug counselors and 75% among social workers. These low conversion rates mean that we are losing many individuals with provisional licenses before they become fully licensed.

Perspectives

We often focus our efforts to increase the number of students who enroll in professional programs to become behavioral professionals but we forget a long road these individuals need to take in order for them to graduate, provisionally licensed and fully licensed. It is important to understand barriers and facilitators along this journey so that we can support these individuals to become fully licensed.
