Religion and spirituality theoretically contribute to meaning in life and consequently influence how people think. This study shows religious/spiritual people in Eastern Europe and the U.S. adopt more comprehensive ways of understanding behavior.

There is a vital need to understand the psychological mechanisms that play a role in the link between religion, spirituality, and meaning in life. This study identifies action identification (tendency to adopt comprehensive ways of thinking about behavior) as one such mechanism.

Perspectives
