What is it about?

200 veterans admitted to a residential substance use disorder treatment program completed a self-report measure of psychopathic personality traits. Those with more callous, impulsive traits viewed the program more negatively and were more likely to relapse after treatment. Those who were more social and dominant did better after treatment but broke more rules and reported more conflicts with other patients in the program

Why is it important?

Most studies of psychopathy and treatment only focus on those in correctional settings. This study showed that knowing if a patient in a non-correctional treatment program has psychopathic tendencies, and knowing which tendencies they have, can help providers know how they will adjust to treatment.
