What is it about?
The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) is widely used as a mental health assessment tool for young people, although there is no consensus on its validity. This study shows strong support for the revision of the SDQ. We suggest rewording the worst functioning items.

Why is it important?
Adolescent mental health problems must get adequately treated, otherwise problems may accumulate in adulthood. When the original SDQ is used in screening mental health among adolescent populations, as many as half of the true positives can be misclassified and adolescents might remain without the treatment they need.
