What is it about?

We show that people conceptualize the superordinate, national identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina in different ways. They understand it either as imposed nationhood, formal identity, or idealized identity (or the cobmination of these).

Why is it important?

Exploring different identity understandings instead of merely measuring it can help us understand identity processes and intergroup relations.

Perspectives

It has been obvious that people living in Bosnia and Herzegovina understand the meaning of the national identity in different ways, and that has been both a cause and a consequence of intergroup relations. It was very interesting for me to unveil these conceptualizations, that, I believe, need to be taken into account when researching BiH.
