This paper reviews research published in a special issue of Peace and Conflict: The Journal of Peace Psychology on how groups succeed or fail to create social change, and summarises what was found.

Why is it important?
This is the first special issue to my knowledge on this topic, and is relevant to peace psychologists as well as political and social psychologists and more broadly those who study social movements, collective action, and activism. It highlights both breakthroughs and obstacles in understanding the relationship of activism to social change, including a diverse range of voices from the global north and south.
