What is it about?

In this study we examined sonifications (where sound is generated from data) and what mappings make sonifications appear to be more urgent.

Why is it important?

This is an extension of Effken's work on multi-tonal urgent sound warnings to sonification. There are lots of good reasons to use sonifications as human are very sensitive to aural patterns. But developing an appropriate mapping so that sonifications are perceived with the reaction that you intend, is important.

Perspectives

This work was connected with our larger study on multi-modal UAV interface design. Working in sound was fun and really made us think about how to design in sound.
