What is it about?

Are attention skills of toddlers at 18 months related to the way their mothers stimulated their sustained attention or distracted them? And how is this related to their functioning at 24 months? and is gestational age at birth also important?, as many preterm children have attention difficulties.

Why is it important?

Early recognition of attention skills and attention problems could evoke specific support or stimulation, which might reduce later attention problems.

Perspectives

This is an important publication, because both nature (biological risk as reflected in gestational age) and nurture (reflected in mother-child interaction) are evaluated in relation to the child's current attention skills and to it functioning 6 months later.
