A model is introduced with initial evidence to explain how undocumented college students develop critical consciousness in response to discrimination, and how this is associated with greater agency and outcome expectations to change discrimination.

Why is it important?
The discriminatory, unwelcoming, and culturally hostile climate toward undocumented students in higher education institutions and society activate cultural stress that is experienced as psychological distress symptoms. By understanding how undocumented students respond to this hostility, clinicians and educators can help promote their empowerment and mental health.
