What is it about?
Ethnic/racial identity development can be a particularly complex process for Filipina/x/o American youth. Thus, it is important for research to accurately capture the nuance in identity development for this demographic, who represent the third-most prevalent Asian American ethnic group. We reviewed prior research to identify strengths and gaps in the measurement of Filipina/x/o American ethnic/racial identity.

Why is it important?
Findings suggest that prior research on Filipina/x/o American ethnic/racial identity has focused predominantly on middle adolescents (15-16 years old), in major cities like California and Hawaii, using developmental measures that only capture ethnic identity. We propose recommendations for future research on Filipina/x/o American ethnic/racial identity, which can not only strengthen the findings for this demographic, but also help inform the development of more tailored identity-based interventions and programs.
